San Antonio Brahmas vs. Arlington Renegades | Week 8 Preview | Quinten Dormady Jordan Ferguson | Memphis Showboats

Brahmas & Showboats Trade Quinten Dormady For Jordan Ferguson

We officially have our first trade of the UFL offseason. The San Antonio Brahmas have traded QB Quinten Dormady to the Memphis Showboats, in return for EDGE Jordan Ferguson.

This is quite the move for both teams – and one that in the grand scheme of things, makes sense. For starters, the Memphis Showboats just recently saw new leadership take over, with Ken Whisenhunt at Head Coach and Jim Monos as General Manager.

Before this trade, the only quarterback on the Showboats’ roster was Troy Williams. Williams started a few games for Memphis in 2024, but never lived up to the potential we saw him display in the USFL with Pittsburgh.

On the other hand, Quinten Dormady now brings some stability – and competition – to the QB room. Dormady started his spring career in the XFL, with the Orlando Guardians. While it was a rough season with Orlando, Quinten landed with the San Antonio Brahmas for the UFL’s inaugural campaign.

Dormady went into the UFL season as QB2 behind Chase Garbers. However, an injury to Chase in week three allowed Quinten to take over for most of the year. Dormady led the Brahmas to a 7-3 record, despite inconsistent play. He threw for 1,202 yards and six touchdowns; but struggled with turnovers, tossing six interceptions and also lost a fumble.

That said, there’s no denying the talent that Quinten brings to the table. He’s a proven leader, seeing quite a bit of success in A.J. Smith’s offense this past season. Now, he’ll look to prove himself in UFL Training Camp for Memphis – a team that had a quarterback carousel in 2024.

Jordan Ferguson: Will He Fit In SA?

On the other side, the Brahmas now have made another excellent addition to their defense. This unit is already loaded with talent, and now Ferguson brings All-UFL caliber play to the franchise.

Jordan Ferguson has spent two seasons with the Memphis Showboats. In 2023, he was a midseason addition, so he didn’t see the field too much. This past year, though, he started in nine games, posting 45 tackles, seven TFL’s, and five sacks. Additionally, he led the Showboats with 20 quarterback hurries in 2024.

Truthfully, the Showboats had the worst defense in the UFL. It was players such as Ferguson who gave them a chance at making anything positive happen.

The question is: how will Ferguson fit into this Brahmas defense? This team already features the likes of Rashod Berry, John Morgan, Kobe Jones, Zach McCloud, and Ikenna Enechukwu at EDGE. Not to mention, Garrett Nelson and Delontae Scott – two key pieces from 2024 – have yet to re-sign. The same goes for Wyatt Ray and Zach Morton, who had their contracts terminated for NFL opportunities.

There’s no denying the fact that Jordan Ferguson is an elite pass rusher. His film with the Showboats shows exactly that. That said, it might still be an uphill battle for him to make this roster in 2025, given all of the talent already on this roster. Time will tell.

Generally speaking, this is a great move for the Brahmas by GM Marc Lillibridge. With the signing of Kellen Mond, it’s clear that Dormady would not be the starter for San Antonio next year. This trade allows them to offload a QB, while bringing in an EDGE who can certainly make an impact in Will Reed’s system if given the opportunity.
