Birmingham Stallions Sign WR Kyric McGowan & TE Tyler Davis

It’s been a busy few days for the Birmingham Stallions. A.J. McCarron has been active, signing a couple more players to the roster, while also seeing one of his quarterbacks step away from the UFL.

Roster Signings

WR, Kyric McGowan
TE, Tyler Davis

As if the Stallions weren’t already stacked at wide receiver already, they’ve added Kyric McGowan to the roster. Kyric is a versatile wideout, who’s already got some NFL experience under his belt heading into Birmingham.

McGowan began his college career at Northwestern, playing there from 2017-2020. He didn’t see a ton of action there at wide receiver, but flashed his ability to run the football. As a super senior, he transferred to Georgia Tech in 2021, leading the team with 467 yards and seven receiving touchdowns that year.

Kyric was signed by the Washington Commanders as an UDFA in 2022, remaining with the team until he was released from injured reserve in 2023. He has since had stints with the Miami Dolphins, Jacksonville Jaguars, and CFL’s Montreal Alouettes.

At tight end, the Stallions have signed Tyler Davis – the former sixth round draft pick by the Green Bay Packers. Tyler continues the trend of Birmingham adding former Packers draft picks, as Birmingham rostered Jace Sternberger for three seasons, prior to his recent retirement.

Tyler had six touchdown receptions at UConn in 2018, before wrapping up his collegiate career at Goergia Tech. Davis spend a few seasons with the Packers, primarily on their practice squad. A torn ACL in 2023 hurt his ability to remain on an NFL roster. Tyler most recently was with the Patriots this past training camp.

QB Jaren Hall Removed

A notable loss for Birmigham is the dismissal of Jaren Hall at quarterback. Hall, the former NFL draft pick with the Minnesota Vikings, was a key addition to a QB room also featuring Matt Corral and Taylor Elgersma.

It remains unclear as to why Hall was released. He might be receiving another NFL opportunity, or he simply could have decided that he did not want to play in the UFL.

Whatever the case may be, Birmingham will need to bring in a third quarterback to compete in camp.
