After a longer-than-anticipated wait for kicker Harrison Mevis, he is finally back on an NFL roster. The Los Angeles Rams signed Mevis to their practice squad today, bringing depth to their specialist room with the former Birmingham Stallions kicker.
Harrison Mevis, also known as “The Thiccer Kicker”, continues the trend of specialists who have gone from spring football back to the NFL.
Mevis had a tremendous season with Birmingham, hitting 20 of his 21 attempts as the Stallions won the USFL Conference in the regular season, with a record of 7-3. Mevis was on fire this year – including a strong 5-6 performance from 50+ yards out. His only miss was from 63 yards. Additionally, Mevis averaged 64.9 yards on kickoff attempts.
Following the UFL’s season, Mevis landed in New York with the Jets – competing with veteran kicker Nick Folk for the starting gig. Harrison was just barely beat out by Folk, and landed on the Jets’ practice squad, but was released only a couple of weeks into the season.

Now, he gets an opportunity in Los Angeles, with the Rams. Joshua Karty has struggled for LA this season, making just 10 of 15 field goal attempts, while also missing three XP’s. Karty missed two kicks in this weekend’s matchup vs. New Orleans.
Birmingham is no stranger to UFL to NFL signings from their specialist group. Two years ago, Brandon Aubrey signed with the Dallas Cowboys – and has since been one of the NFL’s top kickers.
