Steve Spurrier presented with AAF Championship Ring

Steve Spurrier Says He Would Coach in XFL if it Returns

The future is still uncertain for the XFL. If it is set to return, it looks like we’re going to need to wait until August 7th to find out who the new owner is (if there is one). In the meantime, we have some other news to keep us moving along.

Legendary former Florida Gators and Orlando Apollos head coach, Steve Spurrier, was recently interviewed by Josh Kendall of the Athletic. During the discussion Spurrier commented that “If that XFL cranks back up, and they want me to take a team down in Florida, I would probably do it.”

Like we mentioned above, there’s no guarantee that the XFL will come back. If… the league does return for a 2021 season it may be an unconventional one; being housed in one location, without fans, for a 12-week tournament. At least that seems to be one of the proposals on the table so whoever purchases the league can hit the ground running.

Regardless, Steve Spurrier would be a huge name for the re-booted league. When the XFL was on the path to 2020 many fans hoped Spurrier would be part of the league. But, due to his position with the AAF at the time the XFL needed to move on hires before the Alliance eventually folded.
