Back on October 24th we reported that FSU Head Coach, Willie Taggart was to be let go and that Bob Stoops was a name that Boosters were interested in pursuing. Stoops stepped down from Oklahoma in 2016 when he could have possibly added another national title to his resume.
As we know, since then he accepted a job as Head Coach/General Manager of the XFL’s Dallas Renegades. There isn’t a lot known on the league contracts, so it’s possible that Stoops may only be obligated to the league until April of 2020. If that’s the case, it is possible that Stoops could pursue a move.
Our sources say that FSU have an offer on the table that’s north of $7 Million, which is no chump change. The XFL would not be able to match that offer, but they may not need to. Other names that Florida State seems to be looking at include Bob’s own Brother, Mark Stoops as well as Urban Meyer, Mike Leach, P.J. Fleck and slew of others.
Does Bob Stoops stick to his obligations with the XFL? I think so. I don’t see him leaving until at minimum the resolution of the first season. To be honest, this may have been the goal the entire time. It allows Stoops to get his feet wet before jumping into a new position, and the XFL gets a gets a big name with winning experience.
