USFL Updates Rules Ahead of Week 4 to Keep Games Under 3 Hours

We’re heading into the fourth week of the inaugural USFL season, and already we’ve seen a few tweaks. Ahead of tomorrows matchup between the Philadelphia Stars and Michigan Panthers we’re getting another rule adjustment.

Just now, the USFL released a video of Mike Pereira breaking it all down.

FOX is looking to keep all of the games under 3 hours to “maximize fan enjoyment”, so they’ve made some slight changes to the clock to help achieve that goal.

Starting in week 4, during the 1st and 3rd quarters they will be switching to a running clock after an incomplete pass.

We believe this change will achieve the desired game length, while still proving the number of plays you’ve come to expect in a  professional football game.

Again, this will not impact game ending drives, the 2nd and 4th quarter rules are untouched.
