XFL DC shopping practice facilities

Hamilton and Whaley shopping XFL DC practice facilities

The XFL Summer Showcase concluded over the weekend, and it seems that XFL DC Head Coach Pep Hamilton is hitting the ground running. Hamilton and SVP of Football Operations, Doug Whaley have been out looking at potential practice facilities for the DC franchise.

First we learned that Hamilton and Whaley were visiting Bowie State University via the official Twitter account of XFL DC. Bulldogs Stadium, home for the Bowie State football program, features a synthetic turf playing surface and has a seating capacity of 2,964. The stadium opened a new stadium field house in Spring 2015 and features two locker rooms and shower facilities.

We then learned that the next stop was at the facilities of University of Maryland. Capitol One Field  at Maryland Stadium is the home of the Maryland Terrapins football and men’s lacrosse teams, which compete in the Big Ten Conference.

The facility was formerly named Byrd Stadium after Harry “Curley” Byrd. Byrd was a multi-sport athlete, football coach, and university president in the first half of the 20th century. In 2006, naming rights were sold to Chase Bank, which was subsequently acquired by Capital One. In 2015, the Byrd Stadium name was removed, with the stadium being renamed Maryland Stadium

Either of these facilities would be grate choices for the league. That being said, we are slightly leaning towards the franchise choosing the facilities located at UofMaryland.
