Last week the XFL revealed that they had signed a multi-year agreement with ESPN and the Walt Disney Company. The deal will see the league exclusively aired across ABC, ESPN and FX for the next five-years. Many had expected that we’d see the new ownership group working with ABC, but now it was finally official.
Leading up to the big news, XFL co-owner Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson eluded that the league would host their teams in their respective markets when they return. This effectively shut down the rumors that the XFL may adopt the hub concept for their return.
Shortly after, it was confirmed that the University of Houston and TDECU had agreed to host the XFL next year. We’ve since heard rumors of other locations, and many have wondered when they’ll be made official.
Over the weekend we reported that the XFL was set to announce the new team names, cities and logos on June 1st. The league hasn’t commented on the rumors just yet, but we do have a new tease from Dany Garcia.
Garcia has been known to drop breadcrumbs on social media leading up to most of the major XFL announcements. In her latest Instagram Story she poses in front of a shelf containing a box with the new XFL logo.
Along with the posts she adds the following message, “There’s something very special in that XFL box”.
Now that the head coaches have been announced and the broadcast package has been revealed, it seems that the next step is the new team identities.
Although there hasn’t been confirmation from the XFL just yet, generally where there’s smoke there’s fire.
We’ve also seen what seems to be the new XFL game ball, but if the league takes the same approach as 2020 we’ll have many more reveals to look forward to. Is that what’s in the box? We’ll just need to wait a little longer. Either way, it looks like something is cooking at XFL headquarters.
