Birmingham has done it again. The All-USFL Stallions punter, Colby Wadman, has officially signed with the Washington Commanders. Wadman is the 20th USFL player to sign a contract with an NFL team.
Colby Wadman has had a star-studded USFL career. He’s been with the Birmingham Stallions for the past two seasons, winning back-to-back Championships. Throughout both campaigns, he has been one of the league’s elite punters.

Wadman was special in the USFL this year. He earned All-USFL honors, building upon an impressive 2022 season with an even better outing in 2023:
– averaged 48.7 yards per punt
– net average of 41.7 yards per punt
– pinned opponents inside the ten yard line four times
– over 50% of punts went for 50 yards or more
– finished the season with an 18.5% touchback percentage
His consistency played a major role in Birmingham having such a strong special teams unit. Both Wadman and kicker Brandon Aubrey provided the Stallions with quality play through two years, landing themselves NFL gigs.

For Wadman, the NFL isn’t new territory. He spent time with the Denver Broncos, serving as their starting punter from 2018-2019. Now, he’ll have another opportunity to pursue his NFL career with the Washington Commanders.
Final Thoughts
So far, the Birmingham Stallions have sent 11 players to the NFL:
QB Alex McGough (Green Bay)
WR Austin Watkins (Cleveland)
WR Davion Davis (Arizona)
KR/WR Deon Cain (Philadelphia)
TE Jace Sternberger (Buffalo)
TE La’Michael Pettway (Indianapolis)
C Cole Schneider (Green Bay)
K Brandon Aubrey (Dallas)
DT Khalil Davis (Houston)
CB Lorenzo Burns (Cleveland)
Interestingly enough, Wadman had been re-signed to the Birmingham Stallions just a couple of weeks ago. With this NFL opening, his USFL rights are back up for grabs – if he returns, that is.
Had it not been for the platform – and the national exposure – that the USFL provided him with, who knows if this opportunity would have come along.
