United Football League (UFL) set to Launch as the Premier Spring Football League

USFL & XFL Announce The UFL – United Football League

It is official. The USFL and XFL have merged, creating a new entity: the United Football League (UFL). It has been a long time in the making, but the UFL has finally arrived.

Today, Dwayne β€œThe Rock” Johnson and Dany Garcia all went on FOX NFL Sunday to make the announcement. Now, the two entities have officially come together – completely changing the landscape of professional spring football.

This announcement did not provide all of the details surrounding the new league, but it is an excellent step in the right direction. Johnson did mention that locations would be revealed during College Gameday tomorrow. Make sure to tune into the Rose Bowl on ESPN for even more UFL news.

Now, the United Football League is set to kick off on March 30th, with an 8 team structure. While the leagues have not announced the eight franchises, the USFLPA confirmed to players which USFL teams were safe. In addition, XFL players were informed of the situation on their end.

As it stands right now, the eight teams & league divisions will be:

USFL:

Birmingham Stallions
Houston Roughnecks (Gamblers under Roughnecks branding)
Memphis Showboats
Michigan Panthers

XFL:

Arlington Renegades
DC Defenders
San Antonio Brahmas
St. Louis Battlehawks

Tomorrow the speculation will end and we’ll have an official list of UFL locations and teams.

Garcia also announced that the opening UFL matchup would feature the Arlington Renegades and Birmingham Stallions. I can’t think of a better way to kick off the new league then featuring the two Champions.

Additionally, here are a couple other rumored pieces that we are waiting for the United Football League to confirm:

– June 15th: Championship (potentially in St. Louis)
– USFL President Daryl Johnston likely to be involved in a similar role to that of Marc Ross (EVP, Football Ops) who left the XFL a couple of months ago

The first dispersal draft, which was originally set for December 29th, is now supposed to take place on January 5th.

Regardless of what goes down this week when it comes to announcements, it is an exciting time for spring football. The USFL and XFL are now one, and spring football fans can direct all of their focus in 2024 on the United Football League.
