We’re now officially past the halfway point of the inaugural USFL season. Last week we saw a slight dip in the ratings, mainly in part due to the NBA playoffs. Looking forward to this week, we had a double header on NBC with games placed around the Preakness Stakes. Sunday we had one game on FS1 and the primetime game on FOX.
But, how did they fare?
The early Saturday matchup between the Tampa Bay Bandits and Philadelphia Stars brought in 785k viewers. Although not hitting the high’s we saw on NBC previously, still a good showing.
The showcase Saturday night broadcast pitting the Michigan Panthers against the undefeated Birmingham Stallions pulled in 1.196M people. This is a nice rebound from last week, once again topping the one million marker.
Moving to Sunday, the Pittsburgh Maulers and New Orleans Breakers kicked things off on FS1. FS1 has traditionally been one of the lesser viewed broadcasts, and this week is no different. The matchup ultimately had 281k total viewers. This falls in line with the performances we’ve seen on both FS1 and USA, so it seems it’s found its baseline.
Rounding things out this week was the Houston Gamblers and the New Jersey Generals on FOX. The game brought in 665k viewers, which is a little lower then what we’re used to seeing on FOX. Still, not bad numbers for a Sunday night with heavy sports competition.
We’ll keep you updated on the USFL ratings as they come in throughout the season. So far, it seems that the FOX execs like what they’re seeing, so that can only be a good thing.
