Each and every year, the legend of United Football League (UFL) specialists continues to grow. Harrison Mevis, former kicker for the Birmingham Stallions, is the latest participant to add onto that storyline.
On Sunday night, the Los Angeles Rams punched their ticket to the NFC Championship game. Mevis, who joined the team mid-season, played a major role in their victory.
As Chicago roared back late in the Windy City, the Divisional showdown went into overtime, and it delivered plenty of excitement. A late interception by Caleb Williams gave the Rams life, and Mevis capitalized, knocking through a 42 yard field goal to send the Rams onward.
Mevis ended the night with eight of Los Angeles’ 20 points (40%), connecting on two field goals, and two XP’s.
Harrison has had quite the journey on his way back to the NFL. The former Mizzou standout had a couple of NFL opportunities which were rather short-lived. He then took a chance on himself in the UFL, playing for the Birmingham Stallions – and excelling.
With Joshua Karty’s struggles early this year, Sean McVay and the Rams made the decision to bring Harrison Mevis into the fold. He earned the starting gig, and never looked back.
Now, he will have a chance to play for a potential Super Bowl berth – just several months removed from his time in the United Football League. Without the UFL’s platform, who knows if this opportunity would have been made possible.
Harrison Mevis is the second Stallions kicker to make an NFL roster. Brandon Aubrey joined the Dallas Cowboys three years ago, earning Pro Bowl honors in multiple seasons.
