Fresh off the heels of a successful outing in Miami, The Pro Showcase has announced that they have opened up applications for their next event – this time to be hosted in Los Angeles.
The Pro Showcase is operated by Brian Woods, formerly President of The Spring League and USFL. Woods was out of the pro football space for a few years, but has returned to introduce TPS – which runs a similar model to what The Spring League looked to accomplish in its early years.
According to The Pro Showcase’s website, this event exists for potential football prospects to:
- Receive valuable “live” practice and game repetitions in a real football context
- Get current practice and game film
- Receive instruction from a staff comprised entirely of former NFL coaches
- Be evaluated by player personnel departments from the NFL, CFL, & alternative football leagues
Brian Woods believes that there is a legitimate void in the pro football space for player development. In an interview on Around The UFL, Woods says:
“Quite frankly, since we (The Spring League) exited in late 2021, no one has really been in this space at this time. There is no platform out there where a player can go, similar to an NFL mini-camp, where they are going to continue to get repetitions, in what I call a live football experience. It’s not a t-shirt and shorts workout, it’s not a combine. It’s a place that NFL teams can come to, and actually evaluate players up close in person.”
From a coaching perspective, TPS features some of alternative/pro football’s best. In Miami, Bart Andrus and Jerry Glanville were some of the folks who spent all week with each player to work on development for the next level.
The Pro Showcase is already proving the value of its existence. RB Marquez Carter was signed by the Ottawa Redblacks of the CFL following Miami’s showcase. NFL IPP product DE Paschal Ekeji was also recently picked up by the New York Jets, signing to their practice squad.
