Terrell Buckley Reportedly Joining XFL as Head Coach of Orlando Franchise

Terrell Buckley Set to Join XFL as Head Coach of New Orlando Franchise

Yesterday the XFL revealed their new logo and direction as they move forward towards a 2023 return. The third iteration of the league is run by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Dany Garcia and RedBird Capital after scooping it up out of bankruptcy from Vince McMahon.

The 2020 XFL seemed like it was on the road to success, then COVID came and forced the league into submission. After a few delays, the new ownership group is targeting a February 18th, 2023 kickoff which will feature new teams and cities. This comes from an interview Johnson had with CNBC where he stated that the details would be announced in the coming weeks.

Last month we reported that the league had hired Reggie Barlow to potentially head up their new San Antonio franchise.

With the locations still unknown, it looks like we may have our second confirmed coach and host city.

According to Matt Zenitz of ON3 reports that Terrell Buckley is expected to be hired as head coach of the new XFL Orlando franchise.

Buckley was a two-year starter and three-year letterman at Florida State (1989–91), and left as the school’s all-time leader in interceptions and interception return yards . He also tied school records for touchdowns off interception returns (four) and punt returns (three).

His professional career led him to a Super Bowl championship with the New England Patriots in 2002.

Most recently Buckley served as cornerbacks coach for Ole Miss, spending time with Mississippi State, Louisville and Akron previously under the same role.

This will be the first time that Terrell Buckley will come in to run a team on his own. Something that XFL 2.0 excelled at; creating opportunities.

Now that the XFL has their new look and feel out in the open, we think that we’ll start hearing more from the league. Considering that this is now the second head coach and new location to surface, we’re probably not too far off from an official announcement.
