Ted Ginn Jr. To Continue Coaching The Columbus Aviators

Over the weekend, the UFL faced an interesting scenario surrounding Ted Ginn Jr., coach of the Columbus Aviators. He was arrested near the Arlington hub in Texas for driving under the influence, a day before the team’s game against the Dallas Renegades.

Ginn wasn’t present for Sunday morning’s game, with OC Todd Haley taking over as the “acting Head Coach”. The Aviators lost to the Renegades, 28-23. They are now off to an 0-3 start on the season.

Today, ESPN’s Kevin Seifert confirmed that Ted Ginn Jr. will be resuming duties as the team’s Head Coach. He was back at practice today, and could be seen encouraging players in a video posted by the Aviators’ social media team.

Ted was hired by the UFL in December, brought in as a piece that the league believes could connect and energize a new market. With the Aviators playing in Columbus, Ted Ginn Jr.’s local ties run deep. He was born in Cleveland, and repped the city of Columbus playing at The Ohio State University.

Right now, Ginn has the opportunity to return to the league, and hopefully bring some wins to the city.

Ginn released a statement on Sunday, following the news break on Saturday evening:

“I want to address the situation that took place over the weekend. I made a serious mistake and take full responsibility for my actions. I’ve always believed in accountability and now it’s my turn to live that standard. I understand the responsibility that comes with being a leader & role model, and falling short of this is not something I take lightly. I’m committed to learning from this, making better decisions, and earning back the trust of my players, our organization, and the fans. I appreciate the support of my family and the United Football League, and I respect the process as it moves forward. My focus now is on taking the necessary steps to grow from this and represent the Columbus Aviators and this community the right way.”

The Columbus Aviators will play the Dallas Renegades at home, on Friday Night. The game kicks off at 8pm ET on FOX.
