Over the weekend, a couple of transactions took place in the UFL. Aside from a major trade between DC and Houston, the Orlando Storm and Dallas Renegades made a couple of moves.
Orlando Storm
DE Chris Collins, Signed
OT Teton Saltes, Retired
With the releases of Max Roberts and T.J. Pesefea, the Orlando Storm made a move up front. They’ve signed Chris Collins to the roster, the former Minnesota Gopher. Anthony Becht has had success with Gophers in years past, seeing production out of DT Kyler Baugh last season.
Collins played the majority of his college football at North Carolina, with 69 tackles, 11 TFL’s, and 6.5 sacks across 47 games. He transferred to Minnesota for his senior season, posting 18 tackles and an interception, alongside one fumble recovery.
Chris spent the 2024 NFL season on the Los Angeles Chargers injured reserve, but ultimately never made it back to the gridiron. Now, he’ll take an opportunity late in camp with the Storm. They’ve got some legitimate depth at DE – so it will be tough to crack this roster with less than a week to go before cutdowns.
On the other hand, it appears that Teton Saltes has accepted his fate, retiring before cutdowns were made. Saltes is a veteran in this scene, with the Renegades and Battlehawks. He’s primarily been a depth piece, only seeing action in a few games. Saltes’ loss will be felt on the backend, but Orlando is deep at the O-Line position this year.
Dallas Renegades
DE Eyabi Okie-Anoma, Signed
In what’s a rather fascinating move by Dallas, they’ve brought in Eyabi Okie with just a few days to go before cutdowns are made. Eyabi, the former Roughnecks draft pick, played in one game with Houston last year before being released.
Despite what was a rather troubling career at times, having been kicked out of Alabama, Eyabi Okie put up some seriously impressive numbers throughout the next few years. Okie totaled 119 tackles and 19.5 sacks across his college career. In his senior season at Charlotte, Eyabi posted 56 tackles and 5.5 sacks.
Eyabi will have to make a serious impact in Dallas the next few days to secure a roster spot. If the Renegades are dealing with injuries at the position, though, that could give him the boost he needs.
