St. Louis Battlehawks Sign LB Drew Lewis, Buchanan To IR

The St. Louis Battlehawks made another addition to their defense this week, signing linebacker Drew Lewis who is no stranger to spring football.

This move comes as the Battlehawks had to place LB Johnny Buchanan on IR. With several days left before the cutdowns, St. Louis decided to bring Lewis in to compete for a roster spot.

Drew Lewis played in the XFL back in the 2020 season, with the Houston Roughnecks. In five games, he totaled 17 tackles.

From there, Lewis ended up in the USFL in 2022, playing for the Gamblers. That year, he posted 13 tackles. Lewis moved to the XFL in 2023, starting out with the San Antonio Brahmas, and finishing with the Houston Roughnecks.

During the 2023 XFL season, Lewis compiled 24 tackles and a sack with the Brahmas and the Roughnecks. After spending some time as a free agent, he now joins the St. Louis Battlehawks for the 2024 UFL season.

Lewis played his college ball at Colorado, racking up 168 tackles and five sacks during his career there.

Johnny Buchanan To Injured Reserve

A tough loss for St. Louis is Johnny Buchanan, who was placed in the injured reserve list. Buchanan was a rookie coming into the UFL, and was a prospect many thought would have the potential to be great in the spring football scene.

During his senior season at Delaware, Johnny posted a whopping 150 tackles, 8.5 TFL, and 1.5 sacks in 13 games. Hopefully, he can get healthy sooner than later to potentially return to the team.
