St. Louis Battlehawks Sign Free Agent RB Jacob Saylors

The former East Tennessee State product is headed to the UFL. RB Jacob Saylors has signed with the St. Louis Battlehawks, looking to kick start his professional career in the Gateway City.

This signing isn’t much of a surprise, as the Battlehawks need depth in their backfield. The team lost star RB Max Borghi, who has decided not to play in the league this year.

When it comes to putting up numbers, Jacob Saylors is the guy to call. He had an outstanding career at East Tennessee State, finishing with 3,861 rushing yards and 33 touchdowns on the ground.

His most impressive season was his senior year, where he started in all 11 games. Saylors posted 1,317 rushing yards and 15 scores, averaging 5.8 YPC.

On top of his rushing success, Jacob made an impact coming out of the backfield, totaling 779 receiving yards and three touchdowns through the air.

As if he wasn’t versatile enough already, Saylors also has experience on special teams. He returned a total of 57 kicks for 1,425 yards in college, averaging 25 yards per return.

This led to an NFL stint with the Cincinnati Bengals this past preseason. Saylors saw action in their final game, posting 27 rushing yards on nine attempts. He also spent some time on the Atlanta Falcons practice squad.

Now, Jacob turns to the UFL after a few months as a free agent, joining the St. Louis Battlehawks for the 2024 season.

Final Thoughts

General Manager Dave Boller and Head Coach Anthony Becht have put an emphasis on pursuing former NFL talent, especially in their backfield. The team recently signed Wayne Gallman, who has NFL experience as a starter with the New York Giants.

With Mateo Durant and Kevon Latulas also rostered, it’ll be interesting to watch who makes the final cut in training camp – which begins in just a few weeks.
