On Thursday, a few more transactions hit the UFL Wire. The Columbus Aviators re-signed safety Smoke Monday, while the DC Defenders lost WR Seth Williams to IR.
Aside from his incredible name, Smoke Monday is someone who should be a strong addition to this roster. During his career at Auburn, Smoke displayed his abilities to get to the football, with multiple pick-sixes. His three interceptions returned for TD’s tied a school record.
He’s had a couple of pro stints in the NFL, CFL, and IFL. This past March, he was in Training Camp with the Aviators, but just barely did not make the roster. Columbus bringing him back indicates that we could see more changes to their secondary. The Aviators’ safeties struggled to tackle on Sunday night. This is something the team is addressing, bringing Smoke back.
For the DC Defenders, they’ve lost WR Seth Williams to IR. It’s a tough loss, and terrible news for Williams, who had earned a spot in the starting rotation in DC. Seth was a late bloomer for the Defenders last year, but did play a key role in their playoff success. He had three receptions for 51 yards on Saturday, but now will miss at least five weeks on IR.
Additionally, the Houston Gamblers released OG Avery Jones. With Gareth Warren activated off of IR, Jones finds himself on the outside looking in. Avery played 31 snaps on Saturday, not allowing a sack (giving up two pressures). Jones had a strong 72.6 PFF Grade.
