Earlier today, the San Antonio Toros added a key member to Coach Vinlarek’s staff, announcing Stan Bedwell as their General Manager and Offensive Coordinator. The 41-year-old Arkansas native brings an array of coaching and playing experience to the Toros.
In addition to his European Hall of Fame playing career, Bedwell accumulated a 92-25 record and 5 championships during his 10 seasons as Head Coach with teams in Denmark, Finland, Germany, Romania and Switzerland, as well as extensive American collegiate and professional roles primarily as Offensive Coordinator at Northland Community & Technical College, Rochester Community & Technical College, North Dakota State College of Science, Belhaven University, Manchester University, San Antonio Caballeros and Ohio Valley Ironmen.
A pupil of Air-Raid pioneer Hal Mumme, Bedwell brings an explosive and innovative style of play to the San Antonio Toros and Continental Football League. During his time as Offensive Coordinator, his collegiate teams averaged more than three hundred passing yards and one hundred rushing yards per game.
Included in the Toros press release, Managing Partner and Team President Joshua Mair provided a statement on Bedwell’s appointment, “We are excited to welcome Stan Bedwell to the Toros family,” he further added “His proven track record of success, innovative offensive strategies, and leadership will be instrumental in building a competitive team and driving our organization forward.”
The Toros continue to build their organization and staff as they prepare for the reintroduction of Continental Football League’s inaugural season, which plans to kick off in May 2026.
Continental Football League History:
The COFL originally played five seasons from 1965 to 1969, before teams departed for other leagues, forcing it to cease operations after the conclusion of its 1969 season. The league featured numerous National Football League alumni, as well as Pro Football Hall of Fame inductees: Ken Stabler, Doak Walker, Bill Walsh and Steve Van Buren.
The league publicly relaunched in September 2025 under the leadership of commissioner Mike Kelly. The new COFL is community owned, and the fan focused league is positioning itself as the lone “AA” professional football league. It plans to launch in May 2026 with eight teams competing in two divisions (North and South).
