Tuesday was a quieter day in the world of UFL transactions. The San Antonio Brahmas signed OL Briason Mays, who joins the team after having his rights relinquished by Arlington.
News: The San Antonio Brahmas are signing OL Briason Mays, per @uflanalyst.@briasonmays51 was interestingly a Renegades #UFL College Draft Pick, but now lands with the @XFLBrahmas. Played his college ball at WVU & Southern Miss, & recently had a stint with the #49ers. pic.twitter.com/e1M5Dwsx9h

Briason played his college football at West Virginia for a couple of years, starting in 11 of 15 games played there. Mays is someone who’s got plenty of experience at multiple positions, switching between tackle and center for WVU.
He transferred to Southern Miss in 2021, which continued the same trend. Briason primarily played center, but also would appear as a starting tackle in a game at times. With the Golden Eagles, Mays started in 25 of 33 games played.
This led to an NFL opportunity with the San Francisco 49ers. Briason signed as an UDFA this past May, but was let go in early August, prior to most of the preseason.
What makes this pickup interesting is the fact that the Arlington Renegades drafted Mays in the UFL College Draft. Arlington is also without a center. To give up Briason to San Antonio is an intriguing choice by their GM Rick Mueller. In the end, though, Briason makes his way to spring ball – but with the Brahmas instead of the Renegades.
In other Brahmas news, LB Robert Barnes has been transferred to the retired list. It’s surprising to see him move there so abruptly, given his youth and potential to grow with a second stint in San Antonio. Robert had 19 tackles in 2024, seeing action in nine games. He was also a key piece on special teams.
