San Antonio Brahmas Sign Free Agent LB Tarell Basham

San Antonio Brahmas Sign Free Agent DE/LB Tarell Basham

The San Antonio Brahmas made another addition to an already stout defense yesterday, signing DE/OLB Tarell Basham in UFL free agency.

What makes this pickup interesting is the fact that San Antonio just released dozens of players on Sunday. The team decided to make a bit of extra room for a free agent, which turned out to be Tarell Basham.

Basham is an NFL veteran, who brings plenty of quality experience to the table for Wade Phillip’s defense. He played his college football at Ohio, and racked up 157 tackles and 26.5 sacks during his time there.

Tarell is a third round draft pick, taken by the Indianapolis Colts during the 2017 draft. He ended up posting seven tackles and two sacks as a rookie.

From 2018-2020, Basham made a name for himself with the New York Jets, after being picked up by the team midway through the 2018 season.

Across that span, Tarell totaled 78 tackles and 5.5 sacks for the Jets, making 12 starts. He was a solid rotational piece for their defense, but decided to move to Dallas in 2021.

During the 2021 NFL season, Tarell had another productive campaign, with 39 tackles and 3.5 sacks. Since then, though, it’s been a struggle for him to remain on an NFL roster. Most recently, he was with the Cincinnati Bengals – and now, he’ll look to continue his pro career in the UFL with the San Antonio Brahmas.

Final Thoughts

General Manager Marc Lillibridge continues to bring in NFL-caliber talent to this San Antonio organization. The team just claimed WR Matt Landers off of waivers, who was with the Seattle Seahawks for a time this past preseason.

While the Brahmas have a lot to prove this year in the UFL, they’re a team that cannot be slept on. The roster has been completely reworked compared to a season ago, and they are in a position to make a deep run if this offense can gain continuity quickly.
