San Antonio Brahmas Make A Few Splash FA Signings

Amidst some injuries and roster movement, the San Antonio Brahmas have signed a few new faces for the 2024 UFL season. Today, the Brahmas signed the following players:

WR Calvin Turner
OL Alex Pihlstrom
DB Cameron Dantzler
K Ryan Santoso

WR/RB Calvin Turner

Some great news for this San Antonio offense is the return of Calvin Turner. As if they weren’t loaded up on playmakers already, Calvin returns after being waived during the final set of cutdowns in Training Camp.

With T.J. Vasher and Matt Landers now removed, Turner comes back in a position to earn minutes for this team. Calvin was with the Brahmas a year ago, but an injury cut his year short, and he never got to see the football field.

Calvin is an extremely dynamic player with a background that rivals that of any player. He was a standout at Hawai’i, recording 1,422 receiving yards and four touchdowns during his time there. Turner also plays running back, and across that same span, he posted 647 rushing yards and eight scores.

Actually, Turner was a running back at Jacksonville in college, prior to making the move to Hawai’i, and put up tremendous numbers there as well. Considering how highly everyone in San Antonio spoke of Turner’s abilities in Training Camp, it’s not a surprise to see him come back. It was more of a shocker that he was even released in the first place.

OL Alex Pihlstrom

Alex Pihlstrom brings depth to this offensive line, as they’ve lost Alex Mollette for several weeks. Pihlstrom played his college ball at Illinois, earning a starting role during his final season there. This led to an NFL stint with the New Orleans Saints. He had originally signed a LOI with the Houston Roughnecks prior to Phillips & Co. moving to San Antonio.

DB Cameron Dantzler

In an absolute blockbuster of a move, the San Antonio Brahmas have added former Vikings’ third round draft pick, DB Cameron Dantzler, to the roster. Cam came into the NFL and performed well with Minnesota during his time there, posting 149 tackles and three interceptions.

Since then, he’s been trying to find a way to stay on a roster. Dantzler was with the Houston Texans for a time, and also had signed with the New Orleans Saints and Washington Commanders. Most recently, he was on the Texans’ practice squad.

At Mississippi State, Cam totaled 108 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and five interceptions. He’s a bonafide playmaker, and joins the UFL as one of the top prospects in the entire league. Outstanding job by GM Marc Lillibridge to bring in the likes of an NFL-caliber corner such as Danztler.

K Ryan Santoso

The Brahmas have a new kicker. Sadly, Deestroying’s journey in the UFL has come to an end, for now. He’s out for the season with fractures in his neck and collarbone.

In his place, the San Antonio Brahmas have signed Ryan Santoso. He’s an NFL veteran who has been around the block several times. Santoso has played with the Detroit Lions, Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars, and New York Giants, just to name a few. He also won Super Bowl LVI with the Los Angeles Rams on their practice squad.

Santoso’s latest game reps in the NFL came in 2021, when he played for the Carolina Panthers and the Giants. That year, he was 4-5 on field goal attempts, and 6-8 on XP’s. Ryan played his college football at Minnesota, finishing his career there with a 74.4% field goal percentage.

Final Thoughts

Not surprisingly, General Manager Marc Lillibridge has loaded up on more quality talent, even though this Brahmas team is already 2-0. The pieces they have brought in, whether due to injury or simply looking to change things up, are certainly not a downgrade. In some cases, they’re an upgrade.

WR Matt Landers has been released, after not being activated for either game leading up to this point. This is his second time being let go in the UFL, as he was previously cut by the Arlington Renegades.

For the Brahmas, their focus is on the St. Louis, as they host the Battlehawks this Sunday at 3pm ET on ABC.
