Safety LaDarius Wiley Signs USFL Contract Ahead Of Merger

A couple of days ago, safety LaDarius Wiley re-signed his contract with the Philadelphia Stars. Wiley has played with Philadelphia the past two years, and now signs back ahead of the merger.

Right off the bat, one is wondering why the Philadelphia Stars are still signing players. The USFLPA confirmed last week that the Stars will not be a part of the merged league between the USFL and XFL.

However, Wiley signed this contract simply to get his name into the dispersal draft. LaDarius has been one of the most consistent safeties in the league, and now gives himself the opportunity to get picked up by another team.

In 2022, LaDarius helped lead the Stars to the USFL Championship. He was stellar throughout the year, posting 47 tackles and an interception.

The quality play carried over into 2023. Wiley was a leader defensively, starting in all ten games. He finished the season with 42 tackles, 2 TFL, 6 PBU’s, and an interception. While Philadelphia failed to make the playoffs this time around, LaDarius was superb.

Wiley has been around the block in spring football throughout his career. He played in the XFL in 2020, with the Los Angeles Wildcats. During that shortened season, he registered 20 tackles and an interception.

Final Thoughts

Now, Wiley will look to continue his career in the USFL-XFL merger, however that ends up working out. On the USFL side, the four remaining organizations are:

Birmingham Stallions
Houston Gamblers
Michigan Panthers
Memphis Showboats

On the XFL side, the four teams to stick around are likely to be:

Arlington Renegades
DC Defenders
San Antonio Brahmas
St. Louis Battlehawks

With 2024 just around the corner, one has to expect that official news will be breaking sooner than later.
