Houston Roughnecks Sign Reggie Roberson Jr. & Christopher Allen

Roughnecks Sign Reggie Roberson Jr. & Christopher Allen

The Houston Roughnecks are coming off their first win of the UFL season, and added a couple of new pieces to the roster. WR Reggie Roberson Jr., and LB Christopher Allen have signed to the team, bringing depth to the Roughnecks as they head into week five.

WR Reggie Roberson Jr.

Reggie Roberson is a guy who has been searching to find his footing in the professional scene. He was spectacular at SMU in college, totaling over 2,700 receiving yards and 23 touchdowns during his career at the school.

Roberson has always been a playmaker. He became a starter during his first year at SMU as a sophomore, and retained that position throughout his time there.

Since then, Reggie was with the Tennessee Titans for a couple of years on their practice squad. Across the past two preseasons, he recorded six catches for 67 yards.

Now, he’ll look to get himself into the rotation with the Houston Roughnecks. This wide receiver room is talented, but Roberson brings NFL experience that should translate over well in the UFL.

LB Christopher Allen

It’s interesting to see Christopher Allen sign with Houston, as he previously spent time at Alabama and was mentored by current Roughnecks’ LB Reuben Foster. Allen burst onto the scene at Alabama in 2020, totaling 41 tackles and six sacks during that season after being relatively quiet in years prior.

He dealt with injuries in college which hampered his playing time and overall production. Chris missed a lot of time in the 2021 season, but still decided to declare for the NFL draft following the season.

After going undrafted, he was signed as an UDFA with the Denver Broncos in 2022. He was later released with an injury. Allen re-signed in 2023, but was let go once again. With some of the injuries the Roughnecks have dealt with defensively, Chris now joins the team to kickstart his pro career.

Final Thoughts

The Houston Roughnecks are in a position to try and make a playoff push, despite their rough start. The USFL Conference is wide open, and with a 1-3 record, they’re only one game away from the #2 spot.

General Manager Lionel Vital continues to bring in NFL-caliber talent, which should help this unit improve both offensively and defensively as we head towards the halfway point of the UFL season.
