AJ McCarron Sets XFL Passing Record In St. Louis Battlehawks Win

QB AJ McCarron Returns To St. Louis Battlehawks For 2024

St. Louis, QB1 is back in town. AJ McCarron is officially re-signing with the St. Louis Battlehawks, after a long awaited return that took up almost the entire UFL offseason.

It’s been a long time coming for the Battlehawks and their fanbase to finally have the assurance that their signal caller would play this year. For several months, Nick Tiano and Manny Wilkins remained as the only quarterbacks on the roster.

Now, St. Louis will be heading into training camp with three quarterbacks, as AJ McCarron comes into play as the clear favorite to start.

McCarron started in nine games for the Battlehawks during the 2023 XFL season. He was clearly one of the top quarterbacks in the league, throwing for 2,150 yards and 24 touchdowns, completing 68% of his pass attempts. He only tossed six interceptions, being responsible with the football all year long.

Despite their 7-3 record, St. Louis failed to make the postseason – but they went out with a bang in week ten. McCarron threw for an unbelievable 420 yards and six touchdowns against Orlando.

Throughout the season, AJ was a leader for Anthony Becht’s offensive unit. The Battlehawks boasted one of the most prolific offenses in the XFL, and it showed on game day. Their week one comeback against San Antonio sparked an impressive run that came up just short in their tough conference.

Obviously, the NFL is nothing new for AJ McCarron, who spent years with Cincinnati and a few other teams. Following the XFL season, he had signed back to the Bengals, and remained with the team through the rest of the year. He was released by Cincinnati in order to sign with St. Louis according to Howard Balzer, and has now made things official this morning.

Final Thoughts

The city of St. Louis is going to have one heck of a professional football team in 2024. General Manager Dave Boller has done a tremendous job working with Becht and the rest of the staff to put together a solid organization from top to bottom, and now retain one of the biggest free agents from this past offseason. They also just signed QB Brandon Silvers, who replaces Nick Tiano in the quarterback room.

The buzz surrounding the team is certainly making waves throughout the city of St. Louis. The Dome has had to open even more sections, as season tickets continue to fly.

It also appears that the UFL Championship will be played in St. Louis, which is another big-time get for the city. With AJ McCarron officially returning, the Battlehawks are primed to make a Championship run in 2024.
