The XFL is ramping up towards a 2023 return, and it seems like every week there’s more and more news surfacing. One item that still hasn’t been revealed is the highly anticipated team names and logos.
In the leadup to the 2020 season the league had made the big announcement by now, but it seems we may not have to wait much longer.
Jim Thomas of the Post-Dispatch tweeted out that he’s hearing that the nicknames and logos will be announced in a “couple weeks”.
Things I'm hearing about XFL:
1. Team nicknames and logos will be announced in a couple weeks. Very surprised if the StL team is not the Battlehawks.
2. Training camp starts Jan. 9 (in Dallas area).
3. Interest in tickets in StL far outweighs other XFL cities at this point.— Jim Thomas (@jthom1) September 15, 2022
It seems to be a running gag in the spring football community that news will be coming in a couple weeks, but this seems to have some legs.
XFL St. Louis head coach Anthony Becht mentioned in a radio interview last month that he expected the names to drop in September or October. So, this timeline definitely fits the bill.
Thomas goes on to say that he’s be “very surprised is the STL team is not the BattleHawks.” We would agree. It’s expected that the names and logos will be a mix of new and returning. Considering that St. Louis was the XFL’s biggest market in 2020, it would be unexpected to make a change.
Additionally, but not surprising, interest in tickets for the St. Louis market outweights the remaining XFL cities so far. In 2020, the BattleHawks were on pace to sell over 50,000 tickets to their week 7 matchup against the Los Angeles Wildcats.
He also mentions that XFL training camp is slated to begin on January 9th in Dallas.
The wait has been long, but hopefully it’ll be over shortly.
