Pittsburgh Maulers Re-Sign Three Players, Including WR Tre Walker

The Pittsburgh Maulers continue to make moves ahead of the 2024 USFL season. With a new GM at the helm in Dennis Polian, the Maulers are currently looking to re-sign their key athletes who are on expiring contracts.

In their latest wave, the Pittsburgh Maulers have brought back:

WR Tre Walker
OT Justin Evans
OG Jon Dietzen

Let’s take a look at each player, and what they bring to the organization.

WR Tre Walker

Tre Walker has been one of the key playmakers for Pittsburgh through two seasons in the USFL. Walker jumped onto the scene in 2022, recording 33 receptions for 362 yards and a touchdown. During a season where Pittsburgh struggled offensively, Walker was a breath of fresh air for the organization.

Walker saw a dip in production in 2023, due to dealing with some injuries. He played in seven games this season, starting in only four of those. Walker still put up numbers, finishing the year with 200 yards receiving.

Having him back for 2024 is excellent news. With two seasons under his belt in the USFL, Walker is primed for a breakout year if Pittsburgh can see stability at the quarterback position.

OT Justin Evans

Justin Evans is no stranger to spring football. He played for the Dallas Renegades during the XFL’s 2020 season, seeing action in four of the five games Dallas suited up for.

Evans then joined the Pittsburgh Maulers for the 2022 USFL season, and has stuck with the organization ever since. Justin played in all ten games this year, starting in seven.

Offensive line chemistry and cohesiveness is important, so the Maulers being able to retain offensive lineman is a welcomed sign for Ray Horton.

OG Jon Dietzen

Jon Dietzen saw plenty of playing time in 2023,  making an impact. The former Wisconsin standout was a key piece to the Maulers’ line, starting in seven of the nine regular season games he played.

Dietzen brings quite a bit to the table, playing multiple positions during his time at Wisconsin. In 40 games at the school, Jon started in 37 of those, which is an impressive statistic.

Final Thoughts

So far, the Pittsburgh Maulers have also re-signed several others, including:

RB Madre London
C Brayden Patton
DT Terry Beckner Jr.
DT Will Miles
DE Nasir Player
CB Keith Gipson Jr.
S Malcolm Elmore

It’s encouraging to see so many quality athletes returning to the league. Fans of Pittsburgh will be able to root for some of their favorite players once again, as the team looks to build off of a Championship run in 2023.
