Bryce Torneden signed with the Maulers in 2022, and has been one of the top defensive backs in the league ever since.
During the 2022 season, he earned All-USFL honors. Bryce racked up 70 tackles, an interception, and a sack. While the team struggled as a whole to win football games, Torneden was a pillar on defense week in and week out.
In 2023, Bryce continued his successful USFL campaign. He started in all ten games for the Maulers, finishing the year with 48 tackles and a sack.
Torneden’s leadership played a major role in Pittsburgh’s Championship run. The team featured the best defense in the league, led by Assistant Coach of the Year Jarren Horton.
Spring football has been a big part of Bryce’s journey for the past few years. Aside from the USFL, he also played in The Spring League with the Sea Lions in 2021.
Now, Torneden is set to return to the USFL’s top defense in 2024. In spite of the USFL-XFL merger and the flurry of news on that end, Pittsburgh will continue business as usual until everything becomes official by the leagues themselves.
Right now, the early word is that only 8 teams will be a part of the merged league, set to kickoff on March 30th. Regardless, GM Dennis Polian and Co. have their team primed to run it back next year, if Pittsburgh ends up making the final cut.
