Philadelphia Stars Sign Free Agent WR Dontay Demus Jr.

While the USFL-XFL merger is right around the corner, the Philadelphia Stars have signed WR Dontay Demus Jr. to a contract for the 2024 season.

Dontay Demus is an intriguing prospect for the USFL and the Philadelphia Stars. He played his collegiate ball at Maryland, where he posted 2,008 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns across five seasons.

Demus also has some experience on special teams, returning five kicks for 95 yards in 2021.

This past NFL preseason, Dontay Demus played with the Baltimore Ravens. He impressed, and even led the team in receiving yards during their final game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Ultimately, Baltimore decided to let Dontay go in October, although he was originally on the practice squad. While he garnered NFL interest from a couple of other organizations since then (Washington, New York Jets), Demus couldn’t latch on to a roster.

Now, he will look to continue his professional career with the Philadelphia Stars.

Final Thoughts

GM Michael Woods has assembled some impressive pieces this offseason for Philadelphia. While it is unknown if the team will be a part of the USFL-XFL merger, the Stars are in a solid position to improve upon their 4-6 record if they remain in the new league.

So far, the team has signed the following free agents:

RB Kennedy Brooks
RB Seth Rowland
OG Warren Ericson
NT Auzoyah Alufohai
DT Trey Botts
CB Daniel Isom
CB David Vereen
