Matt Colburn, a running back for the Philadelphia Stars, is now making the leap to the NFL. He was one of the USFL’s most explosive backs in 2022, and now signs a contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, in hopes of making the regular season roster.
Despite dealing with multiple injuries, Colburn was absolutely phenomenal for Philadelphia, when healthy. He finished the season with 457 rushing yards, and eight touchdowns. Once he became a consistent part of Bart Andrus’ game plan, the success for their offense skyrocketed.
One of his season highlights came in week six, versus the Tampa Bay Bandits. Colburn ran for over 150 yards on the day, lighting it up for three touchdowns. His performance sparked the Stars in a crucial game, and ultimately started a four game winning streak that put them in the postseason.
Unfortunately, Colburn suffered an injury in the Semi-Finals versus New Jersey – which kept him out of the USFL Championship game. That being said, without his efforts, Philadelphia would not have been in a position to win it all in the first place.
Matt is no stranger to spring football. He played for the New York Guardians in the XFL, before joining the Blues during The Spring League’s 2020 season.
Matt Colburn has been balling out in the #TSL2020. He absolutely deserves a shot in the NFL. 188 yards on the ground last week. 140+ yards already in this game (air/ground). He's making tons of plays – he is exactly why leagues like the #AAF, #TSL, & #XFL exist. #TheSpringLeaguehttps://t.co/PMl2conlUY
