Just a couple of days after their United Bowl appearance, DC Defenders are already going to the NFL. WR Erik Ezukanma has signed a contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, following a solid campaign in DC this UFL season. The original report came from Michael Del Negro.
Ezukanma was an offseason addition for DC’s wide receiver room, one that was loaded heading into the year. Erik, being an NFL veteran, added depth – and playmaking abilities – that were utilized throughout the year.
In 11 games played with the DC Defenders his year, Erik racked up 263 receiving yards, and a touchdown, on 19 receptions.
Ezukanma was also a key piece on special teams. He had 21 kick returns for 544 yards, with a long of 68 yards. He averaged 25.9 yards per return, helping spark multiple scoring drives for the Defenders with his ability to give them strong starting field position.
This won’t be Erik’s first rodeo in the NFL. Erik played his college football at Texas Tech, becoming the first player in program history to lead the team in receiving yards for three consecutive seasons (2019–2021). He recorded over 2,100 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns during that span.
Ezukanma was selected in the 4th round of the 2022 NFL draft by the Miami Dolphins, but never quite found a rhythm in the NFL. Now, he’ll get another chance, this time with the Eagles – a team that typically adds some spring ball talent every year.
