New Orleans Breakers Sign Free Agent WR Sean Coyne

In the midst of the USFL-XFL merger shuffle, the New Orleans Breakers signed free agent WR Sean Coyne out of New Hampshire. The Breakers have been aggressive in signing wide outs this offseason, adding quite a few to the roster.

Sean Coyne played his college football at New Hampshire, where he thrived. He saw his first action in 2018, where he recorded 148 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

After missing time in 2019-2020, Coyne came back in 2021 for his best season yet. Sean posted 327 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns, starting in all 11 games.

During his senior year, Sean finished the season with 386 receiving yards and four touchdowns, averaging 14.3 yards per reception. While Coyne is on the smaller side at 5’10”, 185 lbs., his speed and agility make him an outstanding route runner.

Following his college campaign at New Hampshire, Coyne spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs during their rookie mini-camps this spring.

Most recently, Sean Coyne attended a GRID Camps event in October. This workout was led by New Orleans Breakers HC John DeFilippo, who was clearly impressed by what he saw.

Now, Coyne will look to kickstart his professional career with the Breakers.

Final Thoughts

It’s been an interesting offseason for New Orleans, and the USFL as a whole. Just yesterday, it was announced that the USFL and XFL merger was approved by the government.

The leagues will play a combined season in 2024. Right now, the early word is that the league will only feature 8 teams. But, until things become official, it’s business as usual for New Orleans.

GM Ryan Jones has signed a few new wide receivers, including:

Cam Echols-Luper (Generals)
Vinny Papale (Showboats)
Jimmie Robinson Jr. (IFL)
Sean Coyne (GRID Camps)

The wide receiver room also features: Jonathan Adams, Eli Stove, Jovon Durante, Dee Anderson, and Lee Morris.
