Birmingham Stallions Re-Sign C.J. Marable & Ryan Langan

New England Patriots Sign USFL Champion RB CJ Marable

It’s been long overdue. Two time USFL Champion, CJ Marable, is signing with the New England Patriots per source. Marable has played for the Birmingham Stallions for the past two seasons, winning back to back Championships with the organization.

CJ Marable has been an integral part of Birmingham’s offense for two straight seasons. In 2022, he rushed for 401 yards and five touchdowns, providing the Stallions with an excellent one-two punch alongside Bo Scarbrough.

In 2023, CJ Marable took on an even larger role with the team. Scarbrough got injured in week one, which meant that Marable would take more reps.

He finished the 2023 USFL season with 524 rushing yards, and three touchdowns. Additionally, he posted 1,079 All-Purpose yards, which was the second most in the league.

CJ Marable is proof that if you want something, you can make it happen. The former Coastal Carolina back has worked his tail off to get to this point, and earned his way back into the NFL with the New England Patriots.

USFL to NFL Pipeline

The Birmingham Stallions have now sent 14 players to NFL teams, including:

QB Alex McGough (Green Bay)
WR Austin Watkins (Cleveland)
WR Davion Davis (Arizona)
KR/WR Deon Cain (Philadelphia)
TE Jace Sternberger (Buffalo)
TE La’Michael Pettway (Indianapolis)
C Cole Schneider (Green Bay)
OL Matt Kaskey (Los Angeles Chargers)
K Brandon Aubrey (Dallas)
P Colby Wadman (Washington)
DT Khalil Davis (Houston)
CB Lorenzo Burns (Cleveland)
CB Nate Brooks (San Francisco)

Had it not been for the platform – and the national exposure – that the USFL provided him with, who knows if this opportunity would have come along.

Marable is the 26th USFL player to officially sign an NFL contract. You can stay up to date on all these USFL to NFL signings with our official tracker.

  1. A Patriots type of player, Marable should fit in if he has the NFL body, because his heart and ability are there. I am going to compare him to Harry Sydney, a back who carried a big part of the load in the USFL, but also did the little things. That made him an NFL player long after the original USFL faded. CJ is definitely one of those players I will root for in the NFL, even if it’s to put food on the table, but I would so miss from the USFL. I am starting to wonder if Holtz wants to throw his hat in the Northwestern head coach ring as so many of his players have been signed or does this make him even more enamored with the USFL and how many players he has been able to help.
