Patriots Sign DC Defenders OG Liam Fornadel

New England Patriots Sign Defenders OG Liam Fornadel

With this past Sunday’s UFL Championship officially ending the inaugural UFL season, players are now free to sign with NFL teams. Liam Fornadel, the DC Defenders top offensive lineman of the past two seasons, is signing with the New England Patriots.

Prior to signing with New England, it was previously reported that Fornadel also had workouts with Cleveland and Green Bay. Nonetheless, Fornadel ends up in New England.

Fornadel has remained the starting right guard for the Defenders for the past two seasons, earning All-XFL honors and ranking as the second-highest PFF grade of any offensive lineman this past season.

Fornadel does provide positional flexibility, as he’s filled in along the Defenders offensive line due to injuries. He’s also played both left and right tackle in college at JMU, where he started 41 games.

There’s no question losing Fornadel is a crucial loss to the Defenders roster. Fornadel has been a leader for that unit during the past two seasons, and was leaned on heavily during the in-season transition of OL coaches with Russ Ehrenfeld leaving and Sean Kugler arriving. Patriots fans should be ecstatic about this under the radar signing.

Had it not been for the national platform that the UFL provided him with, who knows if this NFL opportunity would have been possible. You can stay up to date on all UFL to NFL signings with our official tracker.
