Michigan Panthers Sign WR John Hightower, Nick Guggemos To IR

Michigan Panthers Sign WR John Hightower, Guggemos To IR

In another array of moves, the Michigan Panthers claimed WR John Hightower, who was recently released by the DC Defenders. Additionally, the team has brought back TE Nick Guggemos – who was immediately placed on the injured reserve list.

John Hightower joins a very talented wide receiver room, looking to crack the regular season roster after he was unable to do so in DC. John was an offseason signing for the Defenders, who most recently spent the 2023 NFL preseason with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Hightower began his college career at Hinds Community College, playing for two years there, totaling 509 yards and seven scores.

It wasn’t until his Boise State days that John really put himself on the map. He quickly became a starter, and ended up posting 1,447 yards and 14 touchdowns across two seasons.

From there, John Hightower was picked up by the Philadelphia Eagles. He saw some legitimate playing time during the 2020 NFL season, recording ten receptions for 167 yards.

Since then, though, Hightower has been searching to find his footing with a professional football team. Now, he’ll have an opportunity to do exactly that with the Michigan Panthers.

Nick Guggemos To IR

Guggemos to the injured reserve is an interesting move, as he was released during cutdown day on Sunday. Michigan has decided to bring him back, and placed him on IR immediately. This could mean a couple of things – either he was released with an injury prior, or he was injured right after re-signing with the Panthers.

Ultimately, Mike Nolan and Steve Kazor still have some work to do to solidify this Michigan roster. On March 23rd, every UFL team will have to make their final cuts down to 50 players.
