Battlehawks Waive Drew Plitt, Panthers Waive DaShaun White

Michigan Panthers Sign LB DaShaun White, Lose Bryce Torneden

He’s officially back: as of this morning, the Michigan Panthers have re-signed LB DaShaun White. White, who spent a couple of years with the Panthers, now returns after a year off due to an NFL opportunity with the 49ers.

DaShaun White, originally a USFL College Draft pick with Michigan in 2023, used spring football to earn an NFL opportunity in back to back seasons. White went to the Bills for a time after the USFL’s 2023 season, but returned to Michigan in the UFL.

White was on and off the roster in 2024, partially due to injury as he was released for a time. DaShaun made an impact defensively when utilized, with an 80.9 Defensive Grade via PFF. He had 14 defensive tackles in 2024, with seven special teams tackles as well.

DaShaun was picked up by the Las Vegas Raiders following that season – but then landed on the San Francisco 49ers practice squad, remaining there for a year. He totaled two tackles with the Raiders during the 2024 preseason, and was active for one game with San Francisco. White was waived by the 49ers in late May.

Now, he returns to a Michigan Panthers defense that will need some help at LB heading towards 2026. Javin White is planning to retire, and there’s no guarantee that Frank Ginda will return, either.

DB Bryce Torneden Retires

One of the legends of this scene has decided to hang it up. Panthers DB Bryce Torneden is retiring from football, after four seasons in spring football.

Bryce began his career with the Pittsburgh Maulers, playing safety – earning All-USFL honors in 2022 with the team. He was then a key piece to Jarren Horton’s defense in 2023, a unit that led the Pittsburgh Maulers to the USFL Championship that season.

With the Maulers dissolving in the merger, Bryce was picked up by the Michigan Panthers. He ended up moving to slot corner, showcasing his versatility within Collin Bauer’s scheme. In 2024, Torneden totaled 39 tackles and four PBU’s. This past season, Bryce racked up 12 tackles and a PBU; but was primarily a rotational piece, not making any starts.

Bryce goes down as one of spring football’s best: with 170 tackles, an interception, four sacks, and nine pass breakups to his name in the scene. He’s a piece that will be missed in Michigan’s defense moving forward.
