Michigan Panthers Sign De’Gabriel Floyd & Mika Tafua

Michigan Panthers Sign De’Gabriel Floyd & Mika Tafua

The Michigan Panthers made two more roster additions, signing LB De’Gabriel Floyd and DE Mike Tafua as UFL training camp kicks off this week.

DE Mika Tafua

Bringing depth to the defensive line is Mika Tafua, who signs with the Panthers after spending the last couple of years on and off NFL rosters.

Mika played his college football at Utah, totaling 132 tackles and 17.5 sacks across his career there. Tafua had a monster senior season in 2021, finishing with 48 tackles and 9.5 sacks in 14 starts.

From there, Tafua signed with the Dallas Cowboys in 2022 as an undrafted free agent. He recorded three tackles with the team during the preseason.

Since then Mika Tafua also was with the Pittsburgh Steelers, on their practice squad. He was released in 2023 and hasn’t been back on a roster since.

LB De’Gabriel Floyd

De’Gabriel Floyd is an interesting story. He originally had come onto the college scene with the Texas Longhorns, but had to retire due to a medical condition called spinal stenosis.

After a couple of years away from football, Floyd ended up making an incredible return. He played with the HBCU school Alabama A&M, totaling 16 tackles during the 2022 season.

Floyd has received some offers to continue playing college football due to his eligibility remaining (including an offer from Oregon), but now he will switch paths and play for the Michigan Panthers in the UFL, kickstarting his professional career.

Final Thoughts

As we reported this weekend, the Michigan Panthers also signed WR Lance Lenoir Jr. who makes his homecoming to the team. Lenoir had spent the 2022 season with the Panthers and was their leading receiver that year.

With these latest additions, there are presumably a few guys who did not report to camp for Michigan, who have not been announced quite yet.
