Michigan Panthers Sign DB Kedrick Whitehead, Release Will Adams

The Michigan Panthers made a couple of moves in their secondary this week. DB Kedrick Whitehead has been added to the roster, and safety Will Adams was released.

Kedrick joins the Panthers roster fresh off an NFL opportunity in Tampa Bay. He’s an extremely talented defensive back, putting that on full display in college.

Whitehead played the entirety of his collegiate football at Delaware. His freshman season saw some production in limited minutes, with 14 tackles and an interception. As a sophomore, Kedrick earned a starting role, posting 103 tackles and an interception, dominating week in and week out.

Kedrick Whitehead finished his college career with 297 tackles, two sacks, five interceptions, and an outstanding 25 pass breakups with Delaware. He was a starter for 40 of his final 44 games with the school. Whitehead earned First Team All-CAA defensive back honors four years in a row.

Coming out of Delaware, Whitehead earned a contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He played in one game with Pittsburgh, totaling three tackles. An injury ended up cutting his time short in the NFL.

Kedrick signed a Letter Of Intent to play with the Seattle Sea Dragons, but the organization did not make the final cut in the USFL-XFL merger. After not getting picked up in either dispersal draft, Whitehead will now look to continue his professional career in the UFL.

Will Adams Released

Will Adams was picked up by the Michigan Panthers during the UFL Super Draft. He played his collegiate ball at Virginia State, where he racked up 151 tackles and five interceptions across four seasons played. Will also spent some time in the NFL with the Washington Commanders, and was with the XFL’s Vegas Vipers in 2023, posting five tackles.

With Adams getting released, it makes sense to see Kedrick Whitehead getting picked up by Michigan for depth as training camp is fully underway.

General Manager Steve Kazor has continually looked to retool this Panthers’ secondary, so it’ll be intriguing to see the final product ahead of March 30th.
