Michigan Panthers Re-Sign QB E.J. Perry For 2024 Season

Michigan Panthers Re-Sign QB E.J. Perry For 2024 Season

Michigan Panthers fans, rejoice. The team has officially re-signed QB E.J. Perry for 2024, bringing back depth and talent to the quarterback room.

This is a big-time pickup for Michigan. The team lost E.J. Perry in the offseason to the NFL, and also let Josh Love (nine starts in 2023) walk away in USFL Free Agency. Up until this point, only QB Brian Lewerke and a questionable QB Carson Strong remained on the roster.

E.J. Perry has had an unorthodox USFL career so far. He was signed by the Panthers on May 30th, towards the end of the season. Then, in week ten, head coach Mike Nolan decided to throw Perry into action in a do or die scenario against Philadelphia.

After a rocky start, Perry turned things around in the second half. He led a 14 point comeback, as the team ultimately took down the Stars 23-20 in thrilling fashion.

Perry put Michigan in the postseason, and then had them in a position to head to the Championship. Against the league’s best defense in the Pittsburgh Maulers, Perry put on an absolute show.

E.J. finished the game with a whopping 370 passing yards (modern USFL record), tossing three touchdowns and averaging 9.7 YPA. Unfortunately for Michigan, the team would fall just short in overtime against Pittsburgh.

Following a preseason stint with the Houston Texans, Perry became a free agent once again. He had a couple of NFL workouts with the Jacksonville Jaguars and New England Patriots, but now returns to Michigan.

UPDATE: Just hours after re-signing with Michigan, E.J. Perry has signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Final Thoughts

General Manager Steve Kazor has made an effort to secure some important pieces as of late. In addition to re-signing E.J. Perry, the franchise has also brought in:

RB Nate McCrary
RB Raymond Calais
WR Samson Nacua
WR Garrett Maag
OT Obinna Eze
OT Chim Okorafor
OL Jarrett Horst
DE D’Anthony Jones
DE Kenny Willekes
LB Javin White

It is going to continue to be a unique offseason for the Michigan Panthers. The USFL-XFL merger is nearly complete, and the Panthers are expected to be a team in the new league. As March 30th approaches, expect Michigan to continue to make important moves.
