Packers Sign Houston Roughnecks DT Keonte Schad | Michigan Panthers

Michigan Panthers Officially Sign DT Keonte Schad

Last week, the Michigan Panthers had claimed DT Keonte Schad off of waivers, who formerly was with the Houston Roughnecks.

However, within a day of Schad joining Michigan, he was picked up by the Green Bay Packers. Schad hadn’t even been with Michigan for 24 hours.

Keonte spent the last week and a half of the preseason in Green Bay, and posted one tackle this past game with the Packers. Following his release, Schad has now decided to re-sign with the Panthers.

Keonte Schad burst into the spring football scene in the USFL, with the New Orleans Breakers in 2023. Interestingly enough, he started the year with the Orlando Guardians in the XFL, posting two tackles before his release.

As a Breaker, Keonte was an absolute stud. He posted 26 tackles, nine TFL’s, and 7.5 sacks (2nd in USFL), and was honestly snubbed from the All-USFL list that year. The Breakers defense in the trenches would not have been the same without his efforts.

Schad then made the leap to the UFL, selected by the Houston Roughnecks in the Dispersal Draft process. He proceeded to start in all 10 games with Houston this year, totaling 18 tackles, two TFL’s, and 0.5 sacks.

Final Thoughts

After a quick opportunity with the Packers, now Keonte is officially joining the Michigan Panthers. With DT Walter Palmore sticking around in Carolina, this is an excellent pickup from General Manager Steve Kazor for this organization.
