Michigan Panthers Add TE Derrick Deese Jr. & OL Denzel Okafor

With the updates to the UFL rosters this morning, it appears that the Michigan Panthers have made two more additions to the team: TE Derrick Deese Jr., and OL Denzel Okafor.

TE Derrick Deese Jr.

Derrick Deese Jr. brings more depth to a tight end room that is already loaded with talent in Michigan. UFL PR had reported that Deese had signed with the Houston Roughnecks weeks ago, but he apparently is now making his way to the Panthers.

Derrick began his college career at Golden West Juco College, racking up 813 yards and nine touchdowns there.

Then, he moved to San Jose State, and worked his way up to being a starter down the stretch. In 2021, Deese posted 730 receiving yards and four scores.

This led to a stint with the Detroit Lions in the NFL. Deese was even featured on “Hard Knocks”, but ultimately did not make the roster. Now, he’ll look to kick start his professional career with the Michigan Panthers.

OL Denzel Okafor

Denzel Okafor has re-upped with Michigan, after playing with the team in 2023. Denzel was active for two games that year, and was unprotected by the team throughout the merger process.

Now, it appears that he’ll be returning to the Panthers for training camp. Okafor played his college football at Texas, starting in 18 of 49 games played.

Final Thoughts

It’s been a big week for the Michigan Panthers. All-USFL linebacker Frank Ginda officially re-signed to the team yesterday, and now the organization makes a couple more additions to bring competitioh to training camp.

Head Coach Mike Nolan also hinted over the weekend that more signings could be on the way, as they are still eyeing a couple of free agents.
