Miami Dolphins Signing All-USFL Maulers DB Mark Gilbert

Miami Dolphins Signing All-USFL Maulers DB Mark Gilbert

The Miami Dolphins have officially signed Pittsburgh Maulers DB Mark Gilbert, following a successful workout with the team yesterday.

Mark Gilbert is an All-USFL prospect, having played for the Maulers this past season in the USFL. He dominated, doing a bit of everything for Jarren Horton’s defense.

Gilbert finished the USFL 2023 season with:

32 tackles
4 INT (1st)
15 PD (1st)

He consistently took on the toughest assignments for Pittsburgh, and excelled in them all. Gilbert had a knack for making plays during important moments, such as in week five against the Michigan Panthers. His interception in the end zone ended a potential scoring drive, giving the Maulers plenty of momentum.

The NFL isn’t new territory for Mark Gilbert. In 2021, he played in eight games for the Detroit Lions, making three tackles. While he wasn’t a starter, he was able to see some valuable minutes down the stretch.

Gilbert was outstanding at Duke, most notably posting 35 tackles and six interceptions during his sophomore season there.

Now, the NFL dream continues with the Miami Dolphins. The team is in desperate need of cornerback assistance, especially given the injury to Jalen Ramsey. Mark Gilbert could be an excellent fit, proving he can do it at the professional level in the USFL with Pittsburgh.

Final Thoughts

Mark Gilbert joins LB Kyahva Tezino as one of the two Pittsburgh Maulers to sign with an NFL team.

Had it not been for the platform – and the national exposure – that the USFL provided him with, who knows if this opportunity would have come along.
