Memphis Showboats Sign Cyrus Habibi-Likio & Marcus Tatum

It was a rough go for the Memphis Showboats on Saturday night. This has led to a couple of changes on the roster. The team has signed RB Cyrus Hababi-Likio and OL Marcus Tatum, releasing Trey Williams and Terry Poole.

RB Cyrus Habibi-Likio

Cyrus Habibi-Likio now reunites with Head Coach John DeFilippo. He was a late addition to the New Orleans Breakers in 2023, playing in just a couple of games. During their playoff loss against Birmingham, Cyrus rushed for a touchdown.

In college, Habibi-Likio began his career at Oregon. He was a bellcow rusher, utilized in red zone situations. Cyrus rushed for just 407 yards during his time there, but totaled an impressive 21 rushing touchdowns.

For his senior season, he transferred to Boise State. There, Cyrus rushed for 374 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 3.5 YPC.

Now, he’ll look to bring physicality and versatility to this Showboats RB room that could use some juice.

OL Marcus Tatum

Marcus Tatum is back in the spring football scene. He was with the New Orleans Breakers the past two seasons, and started in eight of ten games played in 2023. Tatum was picked up by the Houston Roughnecks during the dispersal draft process, but was released during the final set of cutdowns before the UFL season kicked off. Tatum will bring depth to a team that desperately needs it on the offensive line.

RB Trey Williams: Honestly, it’s a bit of a shocker to see Trey released. He was not utilized at all in the backfield, but was a solid kickoff returner. In fact, statistically one of the best in the UFL. Trey never got a true opportunity to run the football this year in Memphis.

OL Terry Poole: Poole, the former All-USFL OT, is once again a free agent. Poole had some struggles on the line this young season with Memphis, which led to him being benched. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Terry get picked up by another team, though, given his past success in New Jersey and Pittsburgh.

Final Thoughts

Clearly, the Memphis Showboats had to make some personnel changes after their 33-12 shellacking from the Stallions. Case Cookus has had some of the worst protection in the league. Marcus Tatum helps, but he won’t be the end all answer. This organization as a whole needs to figure out how to properly protect their quarterback, otherwise this season is going to be over sooner than later for Memphis.

The Showboats will hit the road this weekend to face off against the St. Louis Battlehawks.
