Jeff McCulloch has been in the USFL for the past two seasons. He began his tenure with the Tampa Bay Bandits, where he posted seven tackles and a sack in 2022.
McCulloch ultimately was part of the team transfer to Memphis, where the Showboats made their debut in 2023. Jeff played an important role on defense, starting in four of six games played. He posted 21 tackles and three sacks this year, proving his value before an injury sidelined him for the rest of the year.
One of his major highlights came during their week four matchup against Michigan. Up by a couple of scores, McCulloch strip-sacked QB Josh Love – taking the scoop and score himself to give the Showboats a 29-10 lead.
Heading towards week five, Jeff was the 3rd highest graded player on the roster, according to PFF (88.0):
“The USFL leader in pass-rushing grade (91.0), Jeff McCulloch has recorded seven pressures on just 45 pass-rushing snaps. His Week 4 effort earned him an elite 94.3 game grade.”
Spring football has been a big part of McCulloch’s journey so far. In 2021, he played with the Sea Lions in The Spring League.
Now, he’s set to return to the Memphis Showboats for the 2024 season.
During the offseason, GM Dave Razzano has made quite a few important moves – especially defensively. In addition to Atkins and McCulloch re-signing this week, the team has brought back several important faces. They have also signed a couple of free agents, including LB Dylan Moses.
Right now, the USFL-XFL merger looms heavy. Whatever happens on that side of things, it seems pretty clear that the Memphis Showboats will be involved in the new league.
For now, the team will look to keep building towards 2024 – and continue their search for a Todd Haley replacement.
