Nehemiah Shelton was drafted by the Showboats during the 2023 USFL College Draft, and ended up joining Memphis midway through the season. He appeared in three games, making one start, and finished the year with three tackles.
After the USFL’s season concluded, the New York Jets picked Shelton up in the preseason. He spent a few weeks with the team, and did enough to land himself a spot on the practice squad.
We've signed DB Craig James, DB Tae Hayes and DB Kalon Barnes to the practice squad.
We've released OL Cedric Ogbuehi, OL Chris Glaser and DB Nehemiah Shelton from the practice squad.
However, Nehemiah was released a couple of weeks ago. Interestingly enough, former USFL CB Tae Hayes (Stallions) was his replacement.
Now, Nehemiah Shelton will look to continue his professional career in the USFL. His collegiate career at San Jose State was quite impressive, and he brings a lot to the table for Carnell Lake’s defense.
Shelton is more proof that the USFL college draft makes a meaningful impact not just for their own league, but also for the NFL.
GM Dave Razzano and the Showboats have been busy as of late, re-signing quite a few players for the 2024 USFL season. In addition, they just signed fellow college draft pick TE Michael Ezeike.
