Memphis Showboats Add TE Cam Sutton, Release Michael Ezeike

Similar to most of the other teams in UFL training camp, the Memphis Showboats are adding new talent almost daily. TE Cam Sutton has signed with the team, in the wake of Michael Ezeike’s release.

Cam Sutton played in the XFL last year, for the Vegas Vipers. He was primarily used as a depth piece, catching 12 passes for 140 total yards.

Throughout his career, Sutton has been utilized as a blocking tight end, but his ability to run routes and make an impact in the red zone has also been on display. For example, during his lone season at Riverside Community College, he scored seven touchdowns in nine games.

Cam Sutton had an NFL opportunity with the Seattle Seahawks in 2021, and has been looking to get himself back on an NFL roster ever since. During the 2021 preseason with Seattle, Cam had four receptions for 12 yards. After the XFL season, Cam was invited to the Atlanta Falcons mini-camp, but did not get signed for training camp.

Now, he’ll look to prove himself in training camp with a few days left before we see cuts from 75 to 58 on March 10th. The Memphis Showboats have a stacked tight end room as is (Sage Surratt, Jay Jay Wilson, Dominique Dafney, Wes Saxton Jr.), so it will be tough to crack this roster.

Michael Ezeike Released

A surprising move is the release of TE Michael Ezeike, who came into training camp as one of the young and exciting prospects for Memphis. Michael was picked up during the USFL College Draft in 2023, and ended up signing with the team in October.

With that said, the amount of talent that each team holds right now is astounding, and there simply isn’t room for everybody. General Manager Dennis Polian and Head Coach John DeFilippo have their work cut out for them as they look to refine this roster ahead of March 31st.
