The Louisville Kings are already making changes after their close loss at home to Birmingham on Friday night. Yesterday, OL Coach Breno Giacomini was fired from the Louisville Kings, he announced in a post to Instagram and Facebook.
This is a bit of an abrupt move by Chris Redman, and one that is surprising. Redman recruited Giacomini to his coaching staff just a few months ago. The two have a Louisville connection, both having been Cardinals throughout their careers.
On Friday, it wasn’t smooth sailing by any means for Louisville’s offense. They scored just 13 points, with a few turnovers – and could not run the ball to save their lives. Their backs combined for just 19 yards on 11 carries, including a fumble from Ian Wheeler on the goal-line.
Evidently, Breno received the short end of the stick, literally. Just one week into the season, and he’s been eliminated already. It remains unclear as to whether or not they will bring in a replacement, but the staff does already feature Jeff Jagodzinski, an accomplished OL Coach in his own regard.
Via Instagram, Breno made the following statement:
“Thank You for the opportunity @ufl @uflkings !! Good luck the rest of the season. I will support the @uflkings and the community of Louisville as always, but was fired as a coach after the loss. Hopefully they find the right IT / RBs coach to fill my position. #GoKings !!”
We’re told that Louisville simply wants more experience in their coaching room. But, if that’s the case, why bring Breno in, in the first place? This was Breno’s first true coaching opportunity at any level, which is something Redman offered to him back in early January.
Hopefully for Chris Redman and this entire Kings organization, they’ll be able to figure it out sooner than later. The Kings will hit the road to take on the Orlando Storm this upcoming Saturday night.
