Los Angeles Chargers Signing Gamblers RB Aaron Shampklin

Los Angeles Chargers Signing Gamblers RB Aaron Shampklin

The USFL has officially sent 33 players to the NFL. Houston Gamblers RB Aaron Shampklin is signing with the Los Angeles Chargers, who just signed former Birmingham Stallions CB Matt Hankins earlier today.

Aaron Shampklin joined the Gamblers midseason, looking to boost the backfield amidst some injuries they were dealing with.

He ended up playing in three games, posting 52 rushing yards on just 12 carries, averaging 4.3 YPC.

Aaron received plenty of NFL interest, having workouts with the Atlanta Falcons, Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Browns, and New York Jets. The NFL is nothing new for Shampklin, having been with the Dallas Cowboys last fall during training camp.

While he did well in training camp, a sprained ankle ended his Cowboys stint short. Now, he’ll have an opportunity to pursue his NFL aspirations with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Aaron Shampklin is the second Houston Gamblers player to sign with an NFL team. TE Josh Pederson signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars a couple of weeks ago. Isaiah Zuber’s contract was recently terminated, but he hasn’t signed anywhere yet.

Had it not been for the platform – and the national exposure – that the USFL provided him with, who knows if this opportunity would have come along.
