Los Angeles Chargers Sign Stallions CB Matt Hankins

Los Angeles Chargers Sign Stallions CB Matt Hankins

The Birmingham Stallions have sent 15 players to the NFL. Cornerback Matt Hankins is signing with the Los Angeles Chargers, per Aaron Wilson.

Matt Hankins won the USFL Championship this season with the Birmingham Stallions. He didn’t see much playing time, only participating in two games – posting two total tackles on the season. Hankins made an immediate impact when signed, though, returning a fumble for a touchdown in a playoff-clinching week nine win.

For Hankins, the NFL is not new territory. He was with the Atlanta Falcons in 2022, joining the team in training camp after a successful tenure in Iowa.

Now, he’ll have an opportunity to pursue his NFL aspirations with the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Birmingham Stallions have now sent 15 players to NFL teams, including:

QB Alex McGough (Green Bay)
RB CJ Marable (New England)
WR Austin Watkins (Cleveland)
WR Davion Davis (Arizona)
KR/WR Deon Cain (Philadelphia)
TE Jace Sternberger (Buffalo)
TE La’Michael Pettway (Indianapolis)
C Cole Schneider (Green Bay)
OL Matt Kaskey (Los Angeles Chargers)
K Brandon Aubrey (Dallas)
P Colby Wadman (Washington)
DT Khalil Davis (Houston)
CB Lorenzo Burns (Cleveland)
CB Nate Brooks (San Francisco)

Had it not been for the platform – and the national exposure – that the USFL provided him with, who knows if this opportunity would have come along.
